Automation of assembly machine
Our latest project – automation of assembly machine. The machine would sort, orientate (where applicable) and check parts (where applicable) for defects prior to assembly. After assembly, the machine will also check for defective assemblies. The process comprises of 2 same component assemblies, processed simultaneously. It was designed to operate at a machine cycle time of 12 seconds and to be capable of operation on 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and 52 weeks a year.
Optima Controls was responsible for the provision of bespoke sequencing software utilising B&R Programmable Logic Controller (PLC), development and integration of comms interface to the camera system, integration of Oriental Motor drives and other equipment used in the machine.
We’ve used B&R Automation Studio software, which is the ultimate tool for machine building and systems engineering. Through its sustainable and efficient approach to software development, it’ll assist you to keep your quality up, your engineering costs down and your time-to-market short – even within the face of ever-increasing product complexity.
B&R Automation Studio is a programming tool for every aspect of an automation project. It minimizes training needs, solidifies overall systems integration and eliminates communication problems between engineering disciplines.
Software development has been started a long way before the hardware was completed, we re-used some software modules across multiple projects, validating functionality via simulation and carrying out commissioning module by module.
Optima Controls was involved in software development, validation, testing and commissioning of the machine with Stäubli robot for a well-known company in the manufacturing industry “Mechatronic”. The goal has been achieved even despite very tight deadlines. The machine is now up and running, producing parts for another happy customer.
